Latest Press - Church Times and Telegraph

A message from Save The Parish national steering committee member Admiral Sir James Burnell-Nugent

We recommend keeping a regular eye on News, especially “In the Press". You can search by author (e.g. Emma Thompson or Marcus Walker), by publication name (e.g. Spectator) or by topic (e.g. vacancies, retirement age).

In particular, we recommend Revd Campbell Paget’s article in last week's Church Times.  His parish’s sad story is worth reading because it shows that even thriving parishes with lots of families are under attack as a result of the “Vision and Strategy” which is supposedly intended to bring in young people. (You will be asked to register for free articles with the Church Times; registering doesn't seem to have any downsides.)

All Saints Church, Brenchley
There was a follow up letter from another priest in this week’s Church Times.(Again please register to read.)

If you are a Church Times subscriber, you may also like to read Angela Tilby’s column this week about how even Richard Dawkins seems to feel we would be culturally poorer without Christianity.

There have also been excellent letters in the Sunday Telegraph last week and again yesterday by Jonathan Baird.

It is very helpful when our supporters keep an eye on press for us and send us what they have spotted, especially in your local press.  It is also always helpful to write letters to newspaper editors whether or not they are published, as they see that readers are interested in the topic.  We feel we have helped to get the value of church and the parish system back into the mainstream press as a topic.  If you wish to write to the Church Times, the address is letters@churchtimes.co.uk and the deadline for letters is Tuesday at noon.   The Telegraph is dtletters@telegraph.co.uk

Join STP As An Organisation

We urge PCCs to join our campaign. The more PCCs we can tell the CofE we represent nationwide, the better. From your perspective, it is a step taken in advance to establish that your PCC unanimously wants to preserve your parish, if and when your diocese comes up with plans to merge it.

So, if you are on a PCC, help run a 'Friends of X Church' group, or otherwise know of or run an organisation that cares for or depends on the parish system, please apply below for your organisation to join Save the Parish.
