Save The Parish - Cornwall

Church House staff learned of this post on 28 April 2022 through a round robin email circulated by Kate Cortez, head of Church House Operations. The closing date was just five days later on 3 May 2022, leading to suggestions that an internal candidate was in line for the job. The post took many at Church House and beyond by surprise - even those who had been involved in On The Way discussions. Save The Parish Cornwall, the Diocese of Truro branch of Save The Parish has called on the Bishops of Truro and St Germans to meet to discuss the brutal cuts planned in their housekeeping programme 'On The Way'.'On The Way' has caused upset and dissent across Cornwall. The text of the letter is reproduced below: 26 April 2022   Dear Bishop Philip and Bishop Hugh, We the undersigned have set up a Cornish branch of Save The Parish (STP). As you are aware, STP has been set up to push back against the increasing centralization of the Church of England while administrative costs burgeon and there is a general movement away from the C of E’s traditional roots in this country i.e. the parish.  This is of particular importance to us in Cornwall as, of course, this is a largely rural county. We are particularly concerned, too, in Cornwall for other reasons. 1.         That very large sums of money – 60 per cent coming from the Church ...

 A group of campaigners has set up a branch of Save The Parish in the Diocese of Truro. The first meeting was held on 6 April 2022 and the following aims and objectives agreed: ‘’Your Cornish Church belongs to you. It is not the Archbishop of Canterbury’s, nor the House of Bishops', nor even the General Synod’s. It belongs in a broad sense to the people of Cornwall and very specifically to the whole of the Church of England within Cornwall. You have a say!’’   The Cornish branch of Save The Parish has been set up to support the main aims and objectives of the national Save The Parish movement.
